Jubilee Door

Our guide spent considerable time discussing the Holy Door, which had been opened for the 2025 Jubilee Year. Millions of pilgrims pass through it during a Jubilee as a symbol of renewal and spiritual pilgrimage.

What struck me most was how ordinary it appeared at first. Amid the scale of St. Peter's Basilica and the treasures of the Vatican Museums, it would be easy to walk past without understanding its significance.

Only after looking closely did I notice the relief panels depicting scenes from the life of Christ and the centuries of tradition represented by the doorway itself.

Throughout our visit, doors appeared repeatedly—as physical entrances, but also as symbols of passage, change, and pilgrimage. The Holy Door seemed to embody that idea more directly than any other object we encountered.
