During my visit I was among the 30,000 visitors who pass through the Vatican Museums each day. I found myself in a crowded hallway, jostling with other visitors while keeping my eye on my tour guide's flag.

A break in the corridor and a window overlooking the Vatican Gardens offered a striking contrast to the crowds. For a moment, the noise and movement gave way to quiet and symmetry.
